Description
A street artist works on one of his many paintings at Place du Tertre, in the Montmartre district of Paris.
With its many artists setting up their easels each day for the tourists, the Place du Tertre is a reminder of the time when Montmartre was the mecca of modern art. At the beginning of the 20th century, many penniless painters including Picasso and Utrillo were living there.
All the year round, numerous painters and portraitists are working in this place to exhibit and sell their famous paintings. The artists who are allowed to put up their easels own a special concession that must be renewed by the city of Paris. These painters have one square meter to issue their paintings and must share this small space with another artist.
Le Montmartre - Place du Tertre L'Espace Salvador Dali, a museum principally dedicated to the sculpture and drawings of Salvador Dali, can be found a few steps from Place du Tertre.
